Friday night.
For the 4,380th time
[Give or take]
I took my contacts out.
A comfortingly annoying part of my bedtime ritual.
This time, though, something felt different.
Off.
I took a moment,
Staring in the mirror,
A little grayer than the year before,
And the year before that,
And so on.
After a minute or so, a thought popped into my head –
“Is this it?”
Not an “Is this it” from a mortality perspective,
But an “Is this all I’m willing to do?”
I was 45,
Joking about being “Halfway Done”*
But what could I share about where I’ve been,
And what I’ll do with the rest.
So I resolved to write.
Everyday.
Something I learned
Something I experienced.
Tips. Tricks. Ideas. Music.
Something that might be useful,
To someone.
A way I might give a little back.
That way when this IS it I won’t ask
“Could I have done more,” but rather,
“I hope I helped”
[At least a little]
Thanks for joining this documentarian**
For the next 45 (or so).
*Not guaranteed, but I have pretty decent lineage in terms of old age
